Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Monday directed the field level police officers to consider the problems of the service -seekers coming to the police station sympathetically, and provide proper legal assistance.
The IGP also gave instructions to the senior officials to increase the supervision in this regard.
The IGP came up with the directives while addressing a virtual meeting with field level officers after the monthly crime review meeting held at the police headquarters on Monday.
All Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and Superintendents of Police attended the meeting from their respective places virtually.
The IGP said, Police have been strictly implementing the prime minister's announcement of a zero tolerance policy against drugs and corruption. If any police member is found to be involved in drugs and corruption, he will not be exempted, the IGP said.
The police chief said that the transparent policy adopted in the recruitment, promotion and posting of Bangladesh Police has created a place of trust in the public mind. He gave instructions to the police officers to continue this trend.
Earlier in the morning, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam presided over the monthly crime review meeting, where the overall crime situation of December last year in the country such as dacoity, robbery, theft, burglary, murder, unnatural death, road accident, abuse of women and children, rape, recovery of narcotics and weapons were discussed.
The statistics of various incidents presented in the meeting shows that the number of registered cases, docoity cases, murder cases, rape cases and women and children repression cases were decreased in December compared to November last year.
Senior officials of Police headquarters were present in the meeting.
