Also, strong steps will be taken against those responsible.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said this on Monday at the Bangladesh Institute of Planners organized webinar “Thematic Review on Detailed Area Plan (DAP).’’
“I saw many buildings on the canals of the city. How did the owners of these structures manage to do so? I will make a strong move against Rajuk officials who are involved in such dealings from behind the scene,” the mayor said.
Also, Atiqul said he would see the CS and RS records of the canals in the city and recover them quickly. “It is time to stand against illegal activities and take action against the illegal occupants.”
The quality of living in Dhaka city has to be raised to the international standard. So, a “national plan” is needed to lower the ever-growing pressure on the capital, the mayor added.
He also asked the planners of Uttara and Purbachal zones to install dumping station to keep the areas clean.
“I had 17 electoral manifestos and need the goodwill of Rajuk now. We have to clear the problems of waterlogging, traffic congestion, and shortage of playground and parks in the city,” Atiqul added.
At the programme, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority Managing Director Taksim A Khan said they had undertaken a “water master plan” that will be completed by 2035.
“We only have 2% of water reservoirs in the capital of what we need to get rid of waterlogging. So we need more canals, reservoirs, and ponds for this. The DAP should be followed to set up the eastern bypass. We cannot turn Dhaka into a bucket,” Taksim A Khan said.
