An inmate escaped from the old district jail in Khulna on Thursday afternoon after scaling its boundary wall, officials said.
Emon Majhi, 30, escaped at around 4:45 pm, confirmed Khulna Jail Superintendent Md Abu Sayem.
He had been in jail since June 13 after being arrested in a theft case filed with Sonadanga Model Police Station.
Emon is the son of Abdul Majhi, a tenant at a house owned by Zia in the Battola intersection area of Sachibunia under Labanchara Police Station.
According to jail authorities, Emon climbed over the eastern boundary wall of the old district jail, adjacent to the Khulna District Bar Association, and escaped at around 4:40 pm. The incident
was captured on the prison's CCTV cameras.
Jail Superintendent Abu Sayem said the CCTV footage showed Emon jumping over the wall and fleeing without any outside assistance.
He said all law enforcement agencies have been requested to help arrest the escaped inmate and security has been tightened at the jail following the incident.
