“It really broke my hurt when I see the wonderful children eager to learn. They are so curious, so smart. But they don’t even have books, which is something international community should focus and provide them with books and learning materials in the camp, otherwise this generation will be lost”, said the DW Chief Editor.
While sharing her experience of a recent visit to Cox’s Bazar’s Rohingya camps, she urged for ensuring the Rohingya children’s education and secured life.
Pohl gave her views at a discussion titled “Migration- Challenges and Approaches in the East and the West” held at a city hotel.
Editor-in-Chief of Bdnews24.com Toufique Imrose Khalidi and Head of DW Asia programmes Debarati Guha, among others, spoke.
Guha said the Children are being taught in English, Mathematics and Burmese but they do not have any book.
“After finishing that they can’t participate in any board examination. So they cannot take any higher education and cannot also go out to have jobs,” she said.
The DW Chief Editor said everybody knows the immediate repatriation of Rohingya is impossible. “We all have to find ways to get out of the state of denial and face the fact that we have to give them a chance to get integrated and start with education and start with having a chance to find a job and start a life here in Bangladesh.”
Toufique Imrose said there is a huge funding gap and the money the international community pledged has not been delivered.
