Islami Bank Hospital & Cardiac Center, Mirpur, organized a rally and discussion meeting on Tuesday to mark World Heart Day 2026, aiming to raise public awareness about heart health and cardiovascular disease prevention.

Observing the day under the global theme “Don’t Miss a Beat,” the rally commenced from the hospital premises in Mirpur on Tuesday morning, followed by a seminar on heart disease prevention and healthy living at the hospital auditorium.

Mohammad Zahir Hussain, Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC and Islami Bank Foundation (IBF), attended the program as the chief guest.

Addressing the seminar, Mohammad Zahir Hussain highlighted that individual awareness, regular health check-ups, and necessary lifestyle modifications are essential to mitigating the risk of heart disease.

"There is no alternative to awareness when it comes to preventing heart disease. Alongside maintaining a balanced diet, people must prioritize regular physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle," he said.

He emphasized that healthcare institutions play a crucial role not only in treatment but also in preventive care and public education. He instructed hospital officials and staff to render quality, compassionate, and dedicated services to maintain the institution's reputation.

The discussion session was chaired by Professor Dr. Khorshed Ali Mia, Director of Islami Bank Hospital & Cardiac Center, Mirpur.

IBF Members Md. Habibur Rahman and K.M. Munirul Alam Al-Mamoon, Executive Director of IBF, and Deputy General Manager Mohammad Jasim Uddin attended as special guests.

Chief Coordinator and Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain Shakil, Chief Cardiac Surgeon Dr. S.M. Zakir Khaled, and specialist doctors including Dr. Rahmatullah Asif, Dr. Soumen Chakraborty, Dr. Sakif Shahriar, and Dr. Motiur Rahman, along with hospital officials and staff, were also present.

Speakers at the meeting urged the public to adopt balanced nutrition, engage in daily physical activity, avoid smoking, recognize early symptoms of heart disease, and seek timely medical consultation, according to a press release.
