A student of Islamic University in Kushtia has not been included in the nomination list for the 2025 Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for pro-longed session backlog and a delay in publishing the results of the Pharmacy department. He submitted written complaints to the university authorities in this regard.
The victim student was identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, student of the Pharmacy Department under 2019-20 academic session.
According to the victim, he secured a CGPA of 3.90 out of 4.00 and came first in the combined undergraduate results in the Faculty of Biological Sciences under 2019-20 academic session.
A notification issued on August 16 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) stated that nominations for the PM’s Gold Medal for 2022, 2023 and 2024 are to be made separately based on examination results published between January 1 and December 31 of the respective year.
The notification, however, stated that nominations for the 2025 PM’s Gold Medal are to be made in accordance with the PM’s Gold Medal Policy-2025.
The victim claimed that his examination was held in November 2025, but the results were delayed until April 2026 due to session backlog and administrative complexities. The other department results, under the Faculty of Biological Sciences, were published in 2025.
‘As a result, I was excluded from the 2025 nomination list, on the other hand a student from my lower position from the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department was included,’ he added.
Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, who served as the chairman of the Pharmacy department at that time, said that the department had been facing difficulties due to a shortage of teachers.
“There were only four teachers in the Pharmacy Department, which caused various difficulties in conducting academic activities. There were also problems with the university’s website in preparing the results. It took us around three months to prepare their results,” he added.
Prof Mamun Al-Rashid, the student advisor of IU, told UNB that he had received the written complaint and will send it to the higher authority.
