A man was killed after being hit by a bus hired by Islamic University in Kushtia on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Monowar, 45, father of Likhon Islam, a student of the Law Department of the university’s 2023-24 academic session.
The accident occurred around 3:45 pm at Egaro Mile near Lakhmipur Bazar, said Prof Dr Sheikh Abdur Rouf, director of the IU Transport Department.
According to locals, the bus, operated by ‘Shane Khoda’, was being driven recklessly and was allegedly on the wrong side of the road divider when it hit Monowar.
He was rushed to Kushtia Medical College Hospital following the accident, where doctors declared him dead.
The bus driver fled the scene after the accident.
Prof Rouf said he had spoken to the president of the Kushtia Bus Owners’ Association, who told him that they would discuss the matter with the victim’s family.
