State Minister for Information Murad Hasan MP on Thursday said a coronavirus testing laboratory is going to be installed in Jamalpur in the next seven days dedicated to serving the 1.5 crore (15 million) people of four northern districts - Jamalpur, Sherpur, Sirajganj and Kurigram.
The lab will be attached to the Microbiology Department of Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur. It is being funded by Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, also chairman of Gazi Group,the state minister said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman received the RT-PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) machine from Chattogram University of Animal Science and it will arrive in Jamalpur on Thursday, he said.
Patients with coronavirus symptoms will be tested and the results will come out in a day, he added. Some 1.5 core people will be benefited, said Murad Hasan.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed 7,103 coronavirus cases and 163 deaths till Wednesday.
