A housewife was allegedly strangled to death with Tk 5.5 lakh looted from her home in Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sukhi Begum, 40, wife of local meat trader Monir Howlader of Bharatkathi village under Dapdapia union.
She was the mother of two sons and two daughters.
Locals and relatives said Monir went to his meat shop in the morning.
Later, his younger brother’s wife called him saying Sukhi was not responding.
When he came home, he found the doors and windows locked.
Breaking the window grill, he entered the room and found his wife lying dead on the bed.
Monir claimed that around Tk 5.5 lakh kept in a drawer for buying cattle was missing with the lock broken.

Abdus Salam, Officer-in-Charge (OC ) of Nalchity Police Station, informed that the police recovered the body and prepared an inquest report.
“We are investigating the incident to find the reason behind the killing,” he added.
