Family sources said Monu was taken to the hospital around 1:30am with breathing complications. Doctors pronounced her dead shortly after she had been taken there.
Her namaj-e-Janaza was held on the Jatiya Press Club premises at 3pm.
Monu started her career in journalism in 1974 as a sub-editor with ‘Begum’ magazine edited by Begum Sufia Kamal and Nurjahan Begum. Later, she joined fortnightly ‘Anayna’ as executive editor and was with the magazine for 25 years.
She was active in various organisations including Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, and Nari Sangbadik Kendra.
Monu’s colleague Parveen Sultana Jhuma said the body will be taken to her organisation Kochikachar Mela and Jatiya Press Club after first Namaz-e-Janaza at Lalmatia Bibi Mosque.
She will be buried at Jurain family graveyard, she added.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Faruq remembered that in a career spanning over four decades, Monu has left a rich legacy that will inspire women journalists in Bangladesh for years to come.
