The wife of a journalist was found dead while the journalist was injured at their rented house at Hargram Bazar in Rajshahi city on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Roushan Ara, wife of Golam Kibria Kamal, 60, alias Kamal Malik, deputy editor of local daily ‘Rajshahi Sangbad’.
Gaziur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner and spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said the couple used to live on the third floor of a three-storey house in the area and local fire service men rushed to the spot after getting a phone call from national emergency number 999.
Police rushed to the house around 7pm and found the door locked from inside. The door was later broken open with the help of the fire service.
Roushan Ara was found lying on the floor while Golam Kibria Kamal was found injured on the bed.
Both were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Billal Uddin, physician of the emergency department, said Roushan was brought dead at the hospital and a piece of cloth was found wrapped around her neck.
However, the exact cause of death would be confirmed after an autopsy, he said.
He added that Kamal had injuries to his hands and legs and had reportedly consumed a chemical substance.
His condition is critical and he has been kept under close observation.
