President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) Mollah Jalal announced the programme at a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Monday.
He said Sangbadik Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad, a platform of journalists, together with BFUJ and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) will arrange the sit-in all over the country also to force the government to pass the Mass Media Employees (Services and Conditions) Bill 2018 in the coming session of parliament.
In the capital, the BFUJ president said, the programme will be held in front of the JPC at 11am.
He warned that they will launch a non-stop movement if their demands are not met immediately.
“A vested quarter has created an anarchic situation in the media sector. We must now establish our rights for our survival,” Mollah Jalal said.
Their others demands, include forming a separate wage board for television journalists, taking steps for ensuring regular disbursement of journalists’ salary, taking action against fake journalists and media organisations, setting the standard of minimum education for entering journalism, updating the newspaper declaration act, determining the qualification of newspaper editor and ensuring transparency in providing accreditation cards to journalists.
BFUJ vice-president Syed Istiaque Reza, secretary general Shaban Mahmood, DUJ president Abu Jafar Surja, DUJ general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury and BFUJ joint secretary general Abdul Majid, among others, spoke at the programme.
