Awami League MP of Bogura -1 constituency Abdul Mannan died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 67 on Saturday.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of day's business.
Speaking on the condolence motion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ”In 1982 many Chhatra League activists and leaders left the organization and then I made Abdul Mannan its president. At that time it was very important to well organize BCL and he (Abdul Mannan) had that skill. Later he was made the publicity and organising secretary also,” she said.
She said that Abdul Mannan was given nomination from Bogra and he was elected MP three times from there.
Sheikh Hasina recalled that few days before his death Mannan came to her and had a long talk over various issues.
The Prime Minister, also the chief of ruling AL, said since the student life Abdul Mannan was engaged in the movements against Zia, Ershad and Khaleda Zia along with other movements and played his due role.
She said that it was very painful for her to see the death of Abdul Mannan as he was a skilled and brilliant politician.
“Whenever I gave him any task he completed it skillfully, it is very much painful for me to see the departure of the leaders whom I had groomed, this kind of departure is a great loss to the country apart from the party,” she said.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Agriculture Minister Dr AbdurRazzaque, Opposition chief whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Shahjahan Khan, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, AL leaders Mohammad Nasim, Tofail Ahmed, Matia C howdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Amir Hossain Amu , among others, took part in the discussion of the condolence motion where they put lights of various angels of Abdul Mannan's political life.
One minute silence was observed.
A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul was offered in the House. Ruhul Amin Madani, AL MP elected from Mymensingh-7 constituency conducted the munajat.
According to the parliamentary tradition today's business was adjourned in honour of late MP Abdul Mannan.
