The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has recommended measures to eliminate irregularities in the distribution of ration cards among repatriated refugees and non-ethnic people living in cluster villages in the hill districts, ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive the cards.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee, chaired by its Chairman Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.
The committee asked the ministry to submit detailed information at its next meeting on vacant posts in the ministry and its subordinate offices, along with the steps taken to fill those positions.
It also recommended that the ministry present details of any irregularities and corruption in the ministry and its affiliated offices during the previous Awami League government and the interim government, along with information on the actions taken against those responsible.
The committee further asked the ministry to inform it at the next meeting about the measures taken to address the concerns of all affected people in connection with the Sajek issue.
It also recommended increasing the reduced honorarium of para workers engaged in the Sustainable Social Services Project in the Chittagong Hill Tracts to a reasonable level, taking into account the rising cost of living.
The committee decided to hold meetings and conduct field visits in December 2026 involving the three Hill District Councils, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.
The meeting also discussed in detail the allocation and equitable distribution of the ministry’s budget for the current fiscal year, irregularities in food grain allocation, expenditure plans and various development projects.
It made recommendations to the ministry to take necessary steps on the issues discussed.
