Police detained Imdadul Islam from his house in the morning.
A police source said Imdadul had an affair with the victim. But the woman ended her extra-marital relation when her expatriate husband returned home about four months ago and learned about it.

The enraged Jubo League leader waylaid the victim on Jan 6 in Nurbagh area and took her to the house of one Makbul in Noapara Railway Slum.
There, he forcefully stripped her and recorded the incident on phone. He threatened to release the video online if the victim discontinued their affair.
Police detained Imdadul after receiving a complaint from the victim in the morning. The said video was found on his mobile phone.

“He confessed to his crimes during initial questioning,” the police source said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jamal Al Naser said they brought the Jubo League leader to the police station after receiving complaint from a woman.
“We’re investigating the allegations,” he said.

Rape incidents in Bangladesh
In last November, the government amended the law to ensure death penalty for rape after gang rape incidents in Sylhet MC College hostel and Noakhali prompted sparked countrywide protest.
The Cabinet approved the amendment on Oct 12 last year. A day later, the President promulgated an ordinance in this regard.
From then till Dec 31, the Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) said 160 incidents of rape took place.

Last year, 1,627 women fell victim to rape. Fifty-three of them were murdered after rape and 14 of the victims took their own lives, according to ASK.
But the actual number is believed to be higher as many victims choose not to report assaults fearing for their safety.
