The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed panel "Sadi-Baishakhi-Sajjad-Ikra" unveiled their 8-point manifesto for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election, focusing on education, research, and building a safe campus.
The manifesto was announced at a press conference on Saturday around 12:30 pm at the campus site of the country’s first July Memorial, Odommo 24.
The announcement was made by the panel’s vice president (VP) candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan.
The key promises in the manifesto included:
1. International-standard education and research;
2. Student-friendly, safe, free, and diverse campus;
3. Planned housing and improved food quality;
4. Safe learning spaces and health protection for female students
5. Quality healthcare services;
6. Well-organized transport system;
7. Promotion of sports and cultural diversity;
8. Environment and animal-friendly campus;
VP candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan said, “For 33 years, beloved Jahangirnagar has awaited this election. In the last three JUCSU elections, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal repeatedly demanded this vote. Today, that long-awaited moment has come. We have fought long against fascism to ensure a student-friendly, safe, diverse, and international-standard campus.”
Dope testing made mandatory for JUCSU candidates
“Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is the only organization that has never deviated from this goal. Today, we have announced an 8-point manifesto. We believe these eight key plans reflect the hopes and aspirations of students, and together we will work to implement them fully,” he added.
GS candidate Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi said, “GPS trackers will be installed on every bus with mobile apps for tracking, schedule, complaints, and stops. Fieldwork transport costs will be reduced and requisition processes simplified.”
She also said, “Vehicles will be supplied from multiple depots to address shortages. Bicycle and motorcycle facilities will be built at all gates, footpaths and internal roads will be repaired, and eco-friendly transport will be promoted. Vehicle fitness checks will be regular, corruption eliminated, and misconduct swiftly addressed.”
Other leaders present included JU Chhatra Dal convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, member-secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik, senior joint convener Affan Ali, and many other leaders and activists.
Earlier, on August 28, JCD JU branch announced a full 25-member panel with Sheikh Sadi Hasan as VP, Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi as GS, Md. Sajjadul Islam as AGS (Male), and Anjuman Ara Ikra as AGS (Female).
