The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after hearing a writ filed by Supreme Court lawyer Shahinur Rahman.
The lawyer filed the writ attaching a report titled ‘Justice seeks VIP protocol defying HC order’ published in online news portals.
Advocate Ekramul Haque stood for the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukdar moved for the state.
Ekramul Haque said some media outlets ran stories on protocol privileges misquoting an HC bench observation and published confusing reports on the tour of a justice to Khulna.
On July 31, the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader ordered probe into the death of schoolboy Titash Ghosh in an ambulance on a ferry in Madaripur after its departure was delayed by three hours for a joint secretary.
During the hearing, a judge said, “They (joint secretaries) are not VIPs. They’re servants of the state. The law defines who are VIPs are. Especially, any decision can be taken for the President and the Prime Minister for the sake of security.”
Ambulances and the vehicles of fire service and police are allowed to move on a priority basis across the world and lamented that the case is totally opposite here, he had added.
Meanwhile, a High Court judge sought VIP room at Khulna Circuit House, car and police escort for his Khulna visit recently.
Online news portals reported that the judge had sought the VIP protocol although the High Court banned it.
Titash Ghosh, who was in an ambulance on a ferry, died of haemorrhage on July 25 as the authorities allegedly delayed the departure of a ferry at Kathalbari jetty-1 in Madaripur by three hours for joint secretary Abdus Sabur Mondol.
