His family members, BNP leaders and activists and followers of Khoka placed wreaths at his Jurain graveyard in the city and offered fateha there around 11am.
A special doa mehfil was arranged at different mosques in the capital on the occasion.
Khoka’s family members organised a doa and milad mahfil at the football club field of Brothers Union after Asr prayers. It was participated by politicians, sports organisers, businessmen and teachers and students of different orphanages.
Besides, Sadeque Hossain Khoka Parishad worked out an eight-day programme, including photo exhibition, documentary screening, discussion, doa mahfil and food distribution, to mark the death anniversary.
BNP arranged a virtual discussion on Khoka’s life and work on Tuesday evening.
Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued separate messages recalling the contributions of Khoka to the country and BNP.
On November 4, 2019, valiant freedom fighter Sadeque Hossain Khoka died in the USA at the age of 67.
Born on May 12, 1952 in Munshiganj, Khoka was a guerilla freedom fighter during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
Khoka was first elected MP in 1991 from Sutrapur-Kotwali seat and subsequently made State Minister for Youth and Sports. He was also elected MP in 1996.
In the 2001 national election, Khoka was also elected MP from the same seat and given the charge of the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock.
Later, he contested Dhaka City Corporation election in 2002 and was elected mayor. He held the post for nearly nine years.
