It was co-hosted by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE).
Two fellows who attended a 12-day Online Training from September 7 to 18 from DIFE shared their experiences and knowledge gained from the training. DIFE officials also shared their action plans for improvement of OSH sectors in Bangladesh.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KOICA organised the training virtually.
For the smooth implementation of the training, KOICA granted learning devices such as Chrome books and others for better access to the online learning environment.
KOICA’s Fellowship Programme is designed to nurture key leaders in developing countries who can contribute to their respective organisation for better result.
This country-focused fellowship programme was launched in 2018 with total beneficiaries of 52 officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment aiming to promote occupational safety issues especially in the RMG sector in Bangladesh.
This year, 21 fellows from DIFE got this opportunity.
Shib Nath Roy, Inspector General (Additional Secretary), DIFE requested close partnership with KOICA.
He thanked KOICA for coming up with logistic support to strengthen the capacity of inspectors of DIFE by providing quality trainings. “The trained inspectors are expected to make a significant contribution in improving the OSH condition in Bangladesh as well as enriching DIFE.”
Young-Ah Doh, County Director of KOICA, said there are many vulnerable workers in RMG sectors in Bangladesh especially vulnerable women and even children.
"I strongly believe that through the finished online training programme along with this seminar, not only the capacity of government officials improved but also working conditions and status of the factories’ workers would be dramatically changed in the near future.
“It’s more important that the views expressed here are disseminated to wider stakeholders so that all of stakeholders follow the Occupational Safety and Health guidelines and protocols driven by DIFE.”
