Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad on Tuesday alleged that Vice Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud is implementing the agenda of BNP and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Central member secretary of the organization Zahid Ahsan and chief organizer Tahmid Al Mudassir came up with the allegation at a press conference at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University.
They alleged that although student politics is banned at KUET, on February 18, under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor external cadres of Chhatra Dal and BNP attacked general students.
More than fifty students were injured in the attack and even though they sought help from the administration they received no response, they claimed.
The leaders of the organisation said het academic activities at the university have been suspended since February 25.
While students are continuing a sit-in demanding the reopening of the university, on April 10, false cases were filed against 22 students, and on April 14, 37 students were expelled following a syndicate meeting.
They alleged no action has been taken yet against the attackers.
Zahid Ahsan said, “The Vice Chancellor himself was once the president of Chhatra Dal’s KUET unit. Now, instead of considering the interests of students, he is showing political favoritism. We demand his resignation.”
Zahid Ahsan demanded the prompt election of DUCSU and all other university student unions, saying, “Through student representative elections, no single student organisation will have exclusive control. However, it must be ensured that there is no procrastination in this process.”
They demanded a neutral investigation and punishment of those responsible for the KUET attack and expulsions, withdrawal of cases and expulsions within 24 hours and resignation or removal of the Vice Chancellor and reopening of all halls within 48 hours.
Other leaders of the organization were also present at the press conference and announced preparations for a strong movement if their demands are not met.
