Kushtia district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Abul Hashem died on Monday after falling ill while addressing a protest rally at Ektara More in the municipality.
The incident occurred around 4:30pm during a brief protest rally.
Kushtia city Jamaat Ameer Enamul Haque said the procession began at 3:30pm from the municipality square, organised by Sadar Upazila Jamaat to protest threats against Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for Kushtia Sadar constituency, Mufti Amir Hamza.
The procession moved through the city and ended at Ektara More, where Professor Abul Hashem was giving a speech. He suddenly became unwell and was immediately taken to Dr Mannan Heart & General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The Jamaat leader said that he had suffered a heart attack.
Dr Abdul Momen of the hospital, however, said Ameer Professor Abul Hashem died before reaching the hospital. So, I cannot confirm the cause of death yet.”
The incident has caused deep grief among party leaders and activists across Kushtia district.
