The report -- 'Governance challenges in tackling coronavirus' -- by the anti-graft watchdog claimed to have found deficiencies in every indicator of good governance in dealing with the Covid pandemic in Bangladesh.
However, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader described the report as "fully biased". "At a time when the world community is praising Bangladesh for effectively tackling Corona, not a single good initiative of the government has come to the notice of the TIB research team, which is very sad," he told the media at his official residence this morning.
Responding to a poser on the alleged irregularities in the health sector as highlighted in the TIB report, the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government had taken necessary action against corruption on its own and "the punishment of the culprits is being ensured through the process of law".
Quader, however, said that the government would take strict action if the anti-graft watchdog "comes up with a list of where specific instances of corruption".
"Corona is a new experience in the world, even the developed countries are struggling to cope with the pandemic. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's far-sighted leadership helped the country cope with the situation much better than it was feared, as it had acted well in advance," he said.
