Party’s former Joint Secretary General Shahdat Hossain Selim came up with the announcement at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club.
Ex-Whip of Parliament and LDP Presidium Member Abdul Karim Abbasi has been made President of the new committee while Selim its Member Secretary.
“Now it’s not possible to do politics with Oli Ahmed. That’s why we’ve formed a seven-member coordination committee led by Abdul Karim Abbasi. I’ve been made its member secretary,” said Selim.
He said the coordination committee will work out the next course of action through discussions with party leaders and activists.
Selim said their party will remain involved with BNP and the 20-party as it is its component.
“Oli Ahmed couldn’t do anything except confusing the nationalist movement and the movement for freeing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by forming the Jatiya Mukti Mancha. We want to strengthen the nationalist forces, and Jatiya Mukti Mancha is not necessary for it,” he observed.
Stating that they committed a sin and unfair act by forming LDP quitting BNP in 20016, Selim said they hope that BNP will give them a scope to atone for the wrongdoing and sin. “We also hope BNP will recognise us as a component of the 20-party.”
Abdul Karim Abbasi, founder member of BNP, said Oli Ahmed does everything only to protect his personal interests. “Oli Ahmed is my friend and I don’t want to say more about him. I’m forced to say with regret that no knowledgeable, intelligent person can do politics with him.”
Asked whether Oli Ahmed is now with them, Selim said 102 central leaders and 32 former ministers and MPs resigned from BNP to form the LDP in 2006. “But no-one of them, except Redwan Ahmed, is with him.”
He also said they do not accept the LDP committee Oli Ahmed formed a few days back. “That committee is ineffective…almost all LDP leaders and activists are with us. So, now we’re the main LDP.”
Selim said they excluded Oli Ahmed from their party as they do not have confidence in him.
He said they protested the way Oli Ahmed, being a freedom fighter, is supporting Jamaat which caused a conflict among them. “He considers LDP as his paternal property, but a political party must be run following organisational rules and regulations.
On October 9 last, Oli Ahmed formed a 203-member new committee of LDP dropping Abbasi and Selim.
Aabbsi was the presidium member while Selim joint secretary general in the party’s previous committee.
On October 26, 2006, Oli left BNP and formed LDP together with then Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
However, B Chowdhury quit LDP within a year and revived his party BDB following a conflict with Oli.
