In an effort to prevent the further spread of coronavirus, local administrations have beefed up monitoring across the country to make sure that those returned from abroad follow home-quarantine rules.   In Madaripur, a complete shutdown has been enforced in Shibchar municipality and three unions of Shibchar upazila to contain the virus which is ravaging the entire world.   All the entrances and exits of the municipality and Panchhar, Baheratal and Natun Bahertala unions have been closed. Most shops in the municipality were closed.   Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) of police Nure Alam Mina revealed the information at a press conference at Shibchar Police Station on Friday afternoon.   He said all the residents of the areas have been asked to stay indoors. “They’ve been asked to call us if they need anything and police will deliver those to their doorsteps with the assistance of local representatives,” he said.   The DIG also said a committee has been formed with local representatives in every area to ensure that those returned from abroad remain in mandatory home-quarantine.

 Around 250 policemen have been deployed in the municipality and three unions to ensure security.
 
Meanwhile, the operation of all modes of vehicles remained suspended in the upazila for an indefinite period
 
Besides, a good number of people were placed under home-quarantine in different districts.
 
In Satkhira, 82 overseas returnees were quarantined in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, taking the total number of quarantined people in the district to 169.
 
Civil Surgeon of the district Dr Hussain Shafayat said a man with fever, cough and cold was taken to the isolation unit of Shyamnagar Health Complex.
 
Besides, mobile courts fined three overseas returnees in Sadar and Shyamnagar upazilas for breaching the quarantine rules.
 
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner SM Mustafa Kamal announced to close all tourist spots, including the Sundarbans, in the district.
 
In Cumilla, 870 overseas returnees are currently in quarantine at their homes in different upazilas.
 
In Sunamganj, 91 people were asked to maintain a 14-day home-quarantine on Friday as they have recently returned home from abroad.
 
Civil Surgeon Dr Shamsuddin said most of them are UK returnees. “We’ll take strict measures if they breach the quarantine rules,” he added.
 
In Munshiganj, 146 people of six upazilas were sent to home-quarantine in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of quarantined people in the district to 291, said Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Kalam Azad.
 
Seven overseas returnees were released on completion of the quarantine period, he added.
 
In Sirajganj, a total of 113 people were quarantined in the last six days. Civil Surgeon Dr Jahidul Islam said they are closely monitoring the quarantined people.
 
Besides, 579 people are serving quarantine at homes in Sylhet while 88 in Jhalakathi, 28 in Sherpur, 283 in Shariatpur, 225 in Dhaka’s Dohar and Nawabganj and 97 in Kurigram.
 
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday announced the detection of three new coronavirus patients in the country, raising the cases of coronavirus in the country to 20.
 
Bangladesh reported the country’s first death from coronavirus on March 18.
