Social distancing went for a toss as thousands thronged immunisation centres across the capital on Thursday to take their second Covid vaccine shots.
In the Lalbag area, for instance, UNB found that health workers were literally struggling to manage large crowds. Many people who came to the centres in the area neither wore masks nor followed social distancing rules.

Though many had queued up since morning to get the shots, some were compelled to return home without any success.
Seventy-year-old Helena Begum was one of them. She had come to 'Surjer Hashi Clinic' in ward no 25 of Lalbag. She fell sick after waiting in the queue outside the clinic and had to return without getting a jab.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh logged 52 Covid-19 deaths and 2,497 cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, showing a decline in single-day fatalities and cases as compared to Tuesday's figures.
The daily case positivity rate also fell slightly to 9.07% from Tuesday’s 9.69%, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On Tuesday, the government started administering the second doses of Covid-19 vaccine under its mass vaccination campaign.
According to the sources, the vaccination campaign will continue for three days in all cities from September 7-9. People will have to take the second doses at the same centre where they got their first doses.
Bangladesh on August 7 kicked off another phase of its mass vaccination drive aimed at inoculating 35 lakh people in six days.
