Md. Manjur Hossain Mahi, DU correspondent of Kaler Kantho, has been elected Dhaka University Journalists’ Association’s (DUJA) new President, while Liton Islam, university correspondent of Star News, as general secretary.
The Executive Committee Election-2026 of DUJA was held today in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. Voting began at 11:50 am and ended at 2:50 pm at the association’s office located at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University.

After the vote count, the results were officially announced at 3:00 pm by Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, former DUJA president and Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur. Assistant Election Commissioners included former DUJA General Secretary and Special Correspondent of Prothom Alo Riadul Karim; former General Secretary and Senior Reporter of The Daily Ittefaq Saidur Rahman; current DUJA President Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi; and General Secretary Mahadi Hasan.
A total of nine posts, including President and General Secretary, were contested in this election. Of the 41 voters, 31 cast their votes in person while 10 voted through postal ballots.
According to the results, Md. Manjur Hossain Mahi secured 30 votes to win the presidency, and Liton Islam received 24 votes to become General Secretary.
In addition, Mahathir Mohammad (The Daily Star) was elected Vice-President; Mohammad Rahad Uddin (Daily Janakantha) Joint General Secretary; H. M. Khalid Hasan (Desh Rupantor) Office Secretary; and Naimur Rahman Emon (The Daily Observer) Treasurer.
After announcing the results, Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan congratulated the newly elected committee, stating that DUJA has always believed in democratic practice.
He expressed satisfaction that the election was held in a festive environment and hoped the new leadership would work unitedly for the welfare of students.
