Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan on Friday visited the Rohingya camps here and emphasised that Bangladesh, which has been hosting over 1.3 million Rohingyas for years, has demonstrated a “historic sacrifice” on behalf of all humanity.

“Unfortunately, a humanitarian tragedy is unfolding here. Türkiye’s helping hand has reached out here just as it has everywhere else, but of course, I wish these tragedies did not exist, and I wish we were not in a position where we had to provide aid,” Fidan told the media during his visit to the camp as part of his two-day official trip to Bangladesh.

He said they are working in solidarity and coordination with relevant neighbouring countries and organisations to find a lasting and just solution to the Rohingya issue.

“We are making intensive efforts to keep this crisis on the international community’s agenda,” said Minister Fidan.

He observed the activities of TİKA, AFAD, Turkish Red Crescent, Türkiye Diyanet Foundation and other Turkish institutions, along with the services provided by Türkiye-Bangladesh Hospital operated by the Turkish Ministry of Health, a senior official told UNB.

Prime Minister's Adviser for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Refugee Relief & Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammed Mizanur Rahman accompanied the Turkish Foreign Minister throughout the day’s proceedings.

The visit encompassed a comprehensive assessment of ongoing humanitarian interventions, with particular emphasis on initiatives spearheaded by Turkish institutions such as the Turkish Red Crescent, TIKA, and other donor agencies.

The delegation toured Camp 9 and Camp 16, where they observed living conditions, interacted with humanitarian service points, and inspected facilities including the Turkish Field Hospital and TIKA’s Multi-Purpose Education and Cultural Center.

This engagement not only reaffirmed Türkiye’s steadfast commitment to humanitarian support in Bangladesh but also underscored the enduring bilateral relations between the two nations, said the RRRC.

The presence of senior Bangladeshi officials alongside the Turkish Foreign Minister further highlighted the shared resolve to address one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges of our era—the plight of the displaced Rohingya population.

After his bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Minister Fidan said Bangladesh bears an immense humanitarian responsibility during this period of growing global challenges.

“The tragedy faced by the Rohingya Muslims, unfortunately, continues,” he said, noting that ensuring stability, security, peace, and prosperity in their region is among the foremost priorities of their foreign policy.

“While continuing our humanitarian aid to improve the situation of the Rohingya, we will also continue to support their safe, dignified, and voluntary return to their homeland,” said the Turkish foreign minister.
