The Army arrested a man while he was extorting money by posing as a member of the Bangladesh Army in Faridpur sadar on Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Arif Sheikh, 39.
He was caught red-handed at Kishan Hat in the Goalchamat area on Thursday night.
Later, he was handed over to Kotwali Police Station and shown arrested in a fraud case under a special law.
In a press release on Friday, the Faridpur Army Camp stated that the arrest was made during a joint operation around 9:30pm on Thursday.
Arif is a resident of the Goalchamat area and claimed to work for the “Daily Ghoshona.”
Arif was collecting money from people by using a fake army identity.
Acting on this information, a joint team led by the Faridpur Army Camp, with members of the 15 Riverine Engineer Battalion and local police, conducted a swift operation and detained him from the spot.
During initial questioning, he admitted that he had harassed members of the public by using false identities.
Md Shahidul Islam, Officer in Charge of Kotwali Police Station, said, “|Legal steps are under way to produce him before court.”
Earlier on Wednesday, the army arrested another impostor, Md Jahir Mollah, 41, with a firearm in a separate operation.
He was later sent to jail after being shown arrested in an arms case.
Both Arif Sheikh and Jahir Mollah are believed to be members of a local fake organisation operating in Faridpur.
