Police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old child in the capital's Pallabi area .
The arrestee was identified as Md. Anwar Hossain Sayeed, 50.
According to Pallabi police sources, the incident occurred at around 2:40 AM on early Saturday in the Thirteen Hearts Camp area under Pallabi. Anwar Hossain Sayeed intercepted the victim while she was returning from the toilet, gagged her, and forcibly dragged her to the second floor of his rented house.
He then beat the victim, suffocated her with a pillow until she lost consciousness, and raped her. Later, he left the victim naked inside a water reservoir near a tubewell and fled the scene.
Subsequently, a local resident went to the water reservoir to perform ablution (Wudu) and discovered the unconscious victim. Hearing their screams, nearby residents and the victim’s family members rushed to the spot, rescued her, and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Locals caught Anwar Hossain Sayeed red-handed after learning about the incident. Upon receiving the information, a team from Pallabi Police Station reached the spot and took the accused into custody, Police added.
It is reported that the arrestee had been harassing and making indecent proposals to the victim in various ways at different times. A case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act has been filed against him with Pallabi Police Station.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
