Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl in Bahar Kachna, Ward No. 9 of Rangpur City Corporation.
Police arrested Imarat Ali on Friday night, said Ashok Chauhan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haragachh Police Station, on Saturday morning.
The girl has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for medical treatment, he said.
The victim’s mother said Imarat Ali lured her daughter into a bamboo grove with the promise of biscuits. He allegedly violated her after threatening her.
A man spotted them leaving the bamboo grove and alerted the girl’s mother that something had happened to her daughter. When the mother questioned her, the girl tearfully described what had happened.
Upon learning of the incident, local residents detained Imarat Ali and later handed him over to police.
The victim’s family filed a case against him on charges of rape, and the accused was subsequently sent to court.
