A man was allegedly beaten to death by his son following an altercation over money in Titas upazila of Cumilla on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Nurul Islam Shanti, 65, of Yusufpur village in Karikandi Union.
His son, Mamitul Islam Rajon, 28, was caught by locals and handed over to police in connection with the incident.
Locals said Nurul Islam Shanti and his younger son Rajon got into an argument over money around noon and started beating each other. At one point, Nurul became unconscious and died, they said.
Following the incident, locals detained Rajon and informed police. Police went to the spot and recovered Nurul's body, said Titas Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Momirul Haque.
The body was later sent to the morgue of Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police took Rajon to the police station.
The deceased's elder son, Mahimul Islam Mohon, said, “I work at a bKash shop in Gharmora of Homna upazila. After hearing about the incident, I came home and found my father dead.”
Rajon had previously worked at a pharmacy in Gouripur Bazar but is currently unemployed, he added.
OC Momirul said there were no visible injury marks on the deceased's body. “The actual cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report,” he said.
