A 55-year-old man died after he was assaulted by a group of men posing as DB police in Zanjira upazila of Shariatpur, said police and a family member on Sunday.
The incident of occurred on Saturday night in Naodoba area on the South of Padma Bridge.
The victim, Milon Bepari, was a resident in Naodoba area adjacent to the Padma Bridge’s Rail Line. He had been suffering from asthma for long.
The victim’s brother-in-law Niloy Parvez Liton said some people identifying them as members of the detective branch appeared at Milon's house around 10pm and wanted to know about some people.
In reply, he said that he didn’t know them, Niloy said, alleging that one of the interrogating people slapped Milon, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was rushed to Zanjira Upazila Health Complex where a physician declared him dead, he said.
Demanding justice for the "murder" upon probe, the relative said the attackers moved to another residence after the incident.
Zanjira police station’s Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Abdus Salam who conducted the primary autopsy confirmed the death of the man after being slapped.
