Members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a man from Malibagh area in the capital in a case involving the fraudulent online sale of tickets for a concert by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam.
The arrestee were Md Bakhtiar Abid Khan, 21, administrator of the Facebook group “Bangladesh Concert & Event Connects (BCEC),” said a CID press release on Saturday.
After getting complaint, members of CID conducted a drive in Malibagh’s Chowdhuripara area of Dhaka on Friday and arrested Bakhtiar with an iPhone set.
Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc are scheduled to organise Atif Aslam’s concert on July 24 at the 300 Feet Cricketers Academy in Purbachal.
The organisers started promoting ticket sales through their Facebook page from July 8 after signing an agreement with GetMyTicket.live.
Nisha Mahbuba Salam, an organiser lodged a complaint.
According to the complaint, the organisers found that several posts were being circulated in the BCEC Facebook group using images of tickets from a previously cancelled concert to advertise and sell tickets for the upcoming event.
When the group administrator was contacted and asked to remove the posts, he demanded Tk 1,00,000 instead, according to the complaint.
He allegedly threatened to continue approving such posts and cause financial losses and damage to the reputation of Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc if the money was not paid.
A case was filed with Paltan Police Station under the Cyber Security Act, 2026.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect admitted that he was the administrator of the BCEC Facebook group and used the Facebook account named “Ak Abid Khan,” the release said.
