Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday claimed to have detained a man with 17 gold bars weighing 1.985 kg in Sharsha upazila of Jashore.
The detainee was identified as Montaj Hossain, 45, a resident of Patuakhali.

Acting on a tip-off that drugs were being transported to India from Jashore, a team of BGB-21 detained the man with the gold bars worth Tk 1.63 crore from the Rudra border area of the Sharsha upazila around 11am, said battalion commander Lt Col Tanveer Rahman.
The detainee has been handed over to Sharsha police, said the officer.
