A team of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday arrested a suspected gold smuggler with 22 gold bars weighing 4.4 Kgs from Chuadanga’s Darshana.
The market value of the seized gold bars is Tk 3.75 crore, the BGB said in a press release.
The man was identified as Said Khan (42), son of Abdur Razzaq Mondol of Darshana’s Mubarak Para area.
Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez Rana, director of 58-BGB battalion, said that a BGB patrol team took position at Uthli in Jibonnagar upazila after receiving information that a large quantity of gold bars was being smuggled through the Darshana border.
Later, they arrested a the man with a motorcycle and recovered the gold bars, he said.
The BGB has filed a case with Darshana Police Station in this regard.
Meanwhile, the seized gold bars were deposited at the Chuadanga treasury office.
