An ex-Shecchasebok League leader was hacked to death Saturday by a drug addict during an altercation -leading to enraged locals later lynching him to death in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.
Saidur Rahman was a former joint convener of the upazila Shecchasebok League, the volunteers' front of the ruling party. He was 35.
His alleged killer was identified as Monrul Islam Moni, 38. Both were residents of Jatarpur village.
The incident happened around 11am in the village.

According to locals Monirul was notorious for taking drugs publicly and being involved in many criminal activities.
Saidur and Monirul got into a heated argument today when Saidur tried to stop him from taking drugs.
At one point Monirul hit Saidur incessantly with a sharp weapon and he died on the spot.

Enraged by the incident, locals beat Monirul mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
Mujibnagar police station’s officer-in-Charge Abdul Hashem said both the bodies were recovered from the spot.
A case will be filed in this connection, he said.
