The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra in Bangladesh have been advised to hoist at the mast local cautionary signal one to alert vessels of a possible deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.
A depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area has moved northwestwards and is likely to intensify into a deep depression -- it now lies over the west-central Bay and adjoining area, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Friday.
Around 9am on Friday, the depression was centred about 1,165km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,105km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,080km south-southwest of Mongla port and 1,060km south-southwest of Payra port, according to the Met bulletin.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction. Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kms of the deep depression centre is about 50 kmph rising to 60 kmph in gusts/squalls.
Sea will remain rough near the centre of this deep depression, the Met office said.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
