Chattogram, Oct 16 (UNB) – A mason who raped a madrasah girl was sentenced to life in prison  here Wednesday at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 of Chattogram.

Judge Moshiur Rahman Khan pronounced the verdict against Mahmudur Rahman Haider, son of Bojol Ahmed of the Number 6 Shilkhali ward of Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Confirming the incident, prosecutor Jesmin Akter said that the court awarded the accused Mahmudur 14 years on charge of abduction and life imprisonment on the rape charge. At the same time, the court also imposed fines totalling Tk 40,000.

According to the case statement, Mahmudur raped the 10th grader of a madrasha of Banskhali on August 4, 2016 after abducting her.

Later, police rescued the girl from Kalurghat Hamidchor area of Chattogram. The father of the girl lodged a case accusing Mahmudur of abduction, rape and demanding ransom.
