According to the directives from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), medical oxygen is being produced here for coronavirus patients, said a press release from Industries Ministry.
Medical oxygen, generally used for patients during emergency medication, will be provided from Tangail BSCIC across the country, it said.
According to BIGL, it has been producing 700 cubic feet every day while it is capable of providing 3,000 cubic feet oxygen in 500 to 700 cylinders on daily basis.
Besides medical oxygen, BIGL also produces Nitrous oxide and Acetylene.
BIGL is one of the four oxygen producing companies in Bangladesh.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), most people with COVID-19 develop only mild or uncomplicated illness, while approximately 14 percent develop severe disease that requires hospitalisation and oxygen support.
Only 5 percent require admission to an intensive care unit (ICU), says WHO.
So oxygen can be lifesaving for coronavirus patients.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed 482 coronavirus cases and 30 deaths from the highly infectious virus as of Saturday.
