A probe committee comprising representatives from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Public Works Department and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will be formed to investigate the wall collapse incident at Mirpur College, DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan said on Tuesday.
He made the announcement after visiting the accident site in Mirpur-2, where a boundary wall of the college collapsed earlier in the day, killing two people and injuring seven others, many of whom had been waiting to collect subsidised essential commodities from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The DNCC administrator said the wall was constructed in 2014, but proper construction materials were not used during its construction. “No RCC work was done there. The wall was built only with brick masonry, which led to this major accident,” he added.
Replying to a question from journalists, Safiqul said the DNCC will try to provide financial assistance to those injured while collecting products from TCB.
He also said arrangements have been made for free treatment of the injured at hospitals following the directives of the Prime Minister.
Sanjida Islam Tulee, MP, and political leaders were present during the inspection.
