Mirza Abbas, political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a member of the BNP Standing Committee, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
“The air ambulance safely reached Singapore after about three and a half hours of flight. From the airport, he was quickly taken to the General Hospital by ambulance,” BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam told UNB.
Dr Rafiqul said he spoke with the doctors there, who said Abbas was admitted to the Neuro ICU under the neurology department of the hospital.
“The doctors have already examined him. He did not face any difficulty during the three-and-a-half-hour journey. He is safe,” he added.
The air ambulance carrying Abbas left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Singapore at around 11:17am on Sunday.
His wife Afroza Abbas, son Yasir Abbas and Evercare Hospital doctor Zafar Iqbal accompanied him on the flight.
Mirza Abbas underwent brain surgery on Friday.
After nearly four hours of surgery, he was shifted to the ICU at night.
The BNP leader was admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday evening after he suddenly fell sick and lost consciousness during iftar.
A medical board comprising leading neurologists was later formed to oversee his treatment.
