Miscreants stabbed the Deputy Director of the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital in the capital on Monday evening.The injured official, Dr. Ahmad Hossain, 50, came under attack while returning home after duty in the afternoon. The incident took place in an alley near the BRAC University campus.
Inspector (Investigation) of Banani police station Md. Mehedi Hasan said a group had been threatening the injured official for several days using foreign numbers, pressuring him regarding a tender.
“Two youths swooped on him from behind and stabbed him, apparently to intimidate him, before fleeing the scene,” the police official said.
He was later rescued with stab injuries and admitted to the Mohakhali cancer hospital for treatment.
Senior police officers have already visited the scene and a drive is being conducted to identify and arrest the attackers, the inspector added.
