A day-long mobile photography workshop was held on Saturday at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies of Jahangirnagar University under an initiative of technology brand Oppo.
The workshop, organised in collaboration with Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, began at 12:00pm and continued until 6:00pm. Around 100 students, teachers and related participants took part in the event.
The session focused on teaching visual storytelling techniques using smartphones. Trainers demonstrated various aspects of framing, lighting, composition, visual storytelling and mobile-based editing using Oppo’s latest imaging technology-enabled ‘Reno15 Series 5G’.
Organisers said the main objective of the initiative is to enhance the skills and creativity of the new generation of visual storytellers. They added that such programmes will continue in the future in collaboration with various educational institutions to promote education, creativity and digital innovation.
The workshop was attended by the department chairman Mirdha Md Shibli Noman, academic representatives, trainers from Pathshala, and officials from Oppo Bangladesh.
Chairman Mirdha Md Shibli Noman said the department regularly organises training and workshops to enhance students’ practical skills and expressed hope that the initiative would benefit the participants.
An interactive session was also held where participants applied the techniques they had learned. Selected participants were later awarded based on their creativity and performance.
Damon Yang, Managing Director of Oppo Bangladesh’s authorised exclusive distributor, said mobile photography has become a powerful medium of expression for young people, helping to improve practical skills and confidence.
Ashraful Awal Mishuk, representative of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, said the goal of the initiative is to encourage students to see photography not only as a technical skill but also as a medium of storytelling.
Officials from Oppo Bangladesh, including South Asia Marketing In-charge Cathy, Head of Marketing Md Nazimuddoula Niloy, and PR & Brand Promotion Manager Md Nazmus Sakib, were also present.
