A 27-year-old woman was killed in a fire that broke out at a high-rise building in the capital's Mohakhali area on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Hasna Hena, a resident of Gaibandha's Gobindaganj upazila, said Md Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station.
She worked in the sales department of an internet service company situated on the 9th floor of the building.
As the fire broke out on the 13th floor of the building, Hasna Hena tried to get out of the building by grabbing a wire.
Unfortunately, she fell down after tearing the wire and was seriously injured.
She was declared dead after being taken to Metropolitan Medical Center Limited in Mohakhali, said the officer.

Eleven firefighting units were working to douse the fire that broke out on the 13th floor of the 14-storey building, said Rafi Al Farooq, the duty officer of the control room of the Fire Service.
So far, the fire service rescued eight people from the building.
However, the fire couldn't be brought under control till 10:30pm.
The fire started on the 13th floor of the 14-storey Khwaja Tower around 5 pm, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell.
Meanwhile, members of the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, Navy and the BGB joined the operation to control the fire, according to the ISPR.

Due to the fire, traffic movement on both sides of the road from Mohakhali's Amtali to Gulshan-1 remain suspended, resulting in long tailbacks on both sides.
Apart from this, electricity connections have also been disconnected in the Mohakhali area.
