They were participating in the general discussion over the resolution brought in the House to pay tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of Mujib Borsho, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
“Every step of Bangabandhu is a lesson for us. If we analyze his life, we see that Bangabandhu had profound faith in the rule of law, deep trust in the court and firm stance to establish justice,” said Law Minister Anisul Huq MP.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been marching forward to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ today.
“Let’s to take oath in the birth centenary of the great leader that we’ll implement the dream of Bangabandhu by building Sonar Bangla under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina to repay the blood debt of Bangabandhu,” said the Law Minister.
Taking part in the discussion, Opposition Jatiya Party MP Anisul Islam Mahmud said Bangabandhu wanted to build the country free from hunger, poverty, corruption and exploitation as well as strengthen democracy and the rule of law, but he didn’t get time to do so.
“He (Bangabandhu) is the inspiration for the progress of our Bengali Nation. Our duty is to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by him,” he said.
Noting that Bangabandhu spent his entire life for the welfare of people, Anisul Islam said, “He (Bangabandhu) wanted democracy. But election is always needed for democracy. It’ll have to make the election ‘meaningful’ and ‘credible’ to people. So, a strong and independent election commission is needed for this.”
The Jatiya Party MP said the rule of law will have to be ensured in the country as Bangabandhu in his first speech after the independence of the country said that no one should take the law in one’s hands and the government would have to ensure so that no one get extra-judicial punishment.
Mentioning the firm stance of Bangabandhu against corruption, he said the zero tolerance policy will have to be followed and the Anti-Corruption Commission will have to be stronger and more independent.
If all the constitutional bodies can be kept ‘meaningful’ and ‘effective,’ then Bangladesh can be built as Sonar Bangla, he went on.
The opposition MP said the country’s economic progress continues despite of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some 5.24 percent economic growth achieved and the country’s foreign exchange reserve has already exceeded US$ 41 billion. It has been possible due to the Prime Minister’s able leadership and timely measures, he added.
Senior Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said the anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu and distorted the history to erase his name from the history.
“None can keep the history hidden… Dead Bangabandhu is much stronger than the living one. Bangabandhu means Bangladesh and Independence,” he said.
Selim said Bangabandhu might die physically, but the death of his works or ideology would never happen in the country.
Joining the discussion, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah questioned as to why the Bangabandhu’s historic 7th March speech is not incorporated in textbook when the Unesco recognised it as the world documentary heritage.
Besides, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Tazul Islam, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, PM’s adviser on private industry and investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, AL MP Mrinal Kanti Das, Abdus Sobhan Miah and Nazrul Islam Babu participated in the discussion.
