MPs urged not to use mobile phone inside Parliament on Wednesday urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to refrain from using mobile phones and taking photographs inside the House.
The request came after Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, who was presiding over the sitting, drew the Chief Whip’s attention to the disturbance caused by phone conversations.
The issue arose as Hamidur Rahman (Dhaka-7) was called to participate in the discussion on the President’s speech, following the address by Abdul Mannan (Brahmanbaria-5).
The Deputy Speaker noted that the noise from mobile phone use was audible throughout the House, disrupting both speakers and listeners.
In response, the Chief Whip requested that all members maintain the sanctity of the chamber.
"I request that no one speak [on a mobile phone] in the Parliament chamber. If anyone is to speak, they should go outside," he said, adding that the noise reaches even the Speaker's desk.
During the proceedings, after a member raised the issue of photography, the Chief Whip clarified that taking pictures inside the chamber is also prohibited.
Furthermore, he reminded the lawmakers to adhere to the Rules of Procedure regarding "crossing the floor." He cautioned members against walking between the Speaker and an MP who is delivering a speech.
"Do not come and go through the middle. If you need to move, go around from behind. This is the rule," Moni reminded the House, calling for strict adherence to parliamentary etiquette.
