Multi-Party Advocacy Forum (MAF), Dhaka stands by the people affected by the recent floods in the Chittagong Hill Tracts through the platform of the students of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Region, ‘Dhaka University Jumma Students Family’.
MAF members noticed that flood-hit areas in Bandarban, Rangamati, and Khagrachari were not receiving as much aid as other regions. In response, they quickly raised 1,31,500 Taka on their own and gave the money to the student group helping people in these hilly areas.
The donation was handed over at the Democracy International office in Dhaka on Monday.
MAF is a voluntary group with members from different political parties who work together on public interest issues. With support from Democracy International, MAF operates in 22 districts across the country. Along with helping flood victims, MAF has been involved in various humanitarian efforts, like assisting day labours during extreme heat, raising awareness to stop child marriage, cleaning and saving canals, planting trees, and providing aid during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Dhaka University Jumma Students Family started in 2008. It is made up of indigenous students from the Chittagong Hill Tracts studying at Dhaka University. Since the recent floods began, these students have been actively collecting donations and providing relief to flood victims in their home region.
