Brig Gen Nazma was also the first female ambulance commander in Bangladesh Army.
“In this burning time of women empowerment, this also an important achievement and milestone of development in women sector,” the ISPR said.
She was the first female Assistant Director of medical services. She was also the first female contingent commander in the history of United Nations and the only woman in history to commanded a level-2 hospital twice.
She is also the only woman in the history who was the country senior twice in the mission areas.
Brig Gen Nazma was the first female in the history of the Bangladesh Air force who commanded the medical squadron twice (base Zohur and base Bashar).
In the United Nations, she was awarded with Force Commander’s commendation, commendation from the special representative of secretory General, Commendation from army chief of Central Africa, commendation from defense minister of Central Africa, among others for her distinguished services.
She was also nominated for the military gender advocate award for 2016 and 2019.
Brig Gen Nazma played a role model of woman empowerment and was recognised with honour throughout the world, the ISPR said.
