Former General Secretary of Rupnagar Thana unit of Swechchhasebak Dal, SI Tutul, and his associates allegedly carried out an attack on members of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Mirpur on Monday night, leaving several injured.
Among the seriusly injured are NCP representatives Shariful Islam and Shamim Ahmed and they are currently undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
The party also claimed that Mahin Ahmed, central joint convener of Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad, along with five others, sustained injuries in the assault.
In protest, NCP activists and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a rally at Mirpur’s Swadhinata Chattar on Tuesday, demanding the arrest of SI Tutul and condemning what they termed a “terrorist attack.”
Speaking at the rally, NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib said, “In the new Bangladesh emerging after the uprising, we must bury the politics of terrorism, extortion, and land grabbing. There is no place for terrorists or their patrons in politics.”
He alleged that the attack on NCP activists in Mirpur was led by SI Tutul and called for his immediate arrest. “He must be expelled from all posts within BNP, both organizational and primary. I urge Tarique Rahman to take action against such rogue elements—otherwise, they will be the cause of downfall of BNP,” Adib said.
Others who spoke at the rally included NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Akram Hossain, organizers MM Shoaib, Imran Naeem, and Zayed Bin Naser.
The event was moderated by NCP Central Organizer Abdullah Monsur, with additional remarks from injured student leader Mahin Ahmed and Central Co-Spokesperson Fardin Hasan.
