Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Friday stated that he does not see any challenges so far regarding the upcoming city corporation elections.
Bangladesh Police is ready to follow any directives from the Election Commission to make the election fair, he said.
The officer made the remarks while speaking with reporters after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.
“Bangladesh Police is ready to carry out the responsibility given to us by the Election Commission. We don't see any challenges so far. However, Bangladesh Police will always be ready to face any challenges”, said the officer.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Sylhet Range Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Ilias Sharif, Sylhet Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun and many officials were present at the time.
According to the election schedule, Gazipur city corporation election will be held on May 25. Khulna and Barishal will go to polls on June 12. Sylhet and Rajshahi city corporations will hold the election on June 21.
